I had a Betta in with my 6 Angelfish for a while. The Betta was the boss of the tank for a while. Everything was fine until two of the Angels paired off and started mating. The pair picked on everyone, but they just about killed the Betta before I found out what was going on.

I don't believe there can be no problems. The trailing fins of the angelfish too strongly resemble the typical fin arrangement of other labyrinthine fish such as gouramis and trouble ensues. And Angels, being cichlids, are very aggressive and protective mates/parents. I tried it a couple of times, many years back, and the same problems occurred each time, no matter the size of the tank.
Hope this helps.

I have in a large,(45 gallon) well planted tank with a large school of neons and half a dozen Rasboras. Don't know if it matters, but the angels were a mated pair. When they decided to spawn they would take over a large Amazon Sword and keep all the other fish at the other end of the tank.

I would advise you stay away from fan-tail fish such as barbs, danos, gouramis, angelfish and catfish.
I've found they do really well with tetras and the contrast between the larger beta and the neon tetras always gets comments from friends.

Bettas should NEVER be housed with semi-aggressive or aggressive fish. Angels can be downright nasty, particularly when they pair off. Poor betta will have his beautiful fins bit off.
