Probably a bit, but Bowie was far from the most important influence of Nirvana. When I listen to Nirvana, I hear the influence of 80's alternative and hardcore bands, like The Meat Puppets or The Pixies, in their sound, and also the songwriting of the Beatles and Michael Stipe.

The main difference between the two are two fold.#1Bowie was an innovator and Kirk was a drug addicted ,suicidal,performer who liked the taste of a shotgun because he couldn't handle the pressure.There are many many musicens that have gone through allot more and never took that road Clapton,Townshend,and many many others.He is no one to recognise as great! Good Yes But Great HELL NO#2 If he couldn't handle the spot light why then did he just write music for others.

I think Bowie was the reason Cobain gave up hockey. Ever hear the Nirvana cover of Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold the World'? One of my personal favorites.
