That must have hurt pretty bad... I don't think that is very kind of them.
Many people simply don't know what to say, so they end up saying something stupid. They don't even really think those things, but they say it anyway.
Next time this happens, ask them sincerely, look them right in the eye and say, kindly, "what do you mean by that?" Say it with a gentle smile.

It is melodramatic. It means you are overly dramatic. Almost like you were in a play and you were acting. It isn't a bad thing to be called. Maybe you are just dramatic in your day to day life. Those are the best actors in the movies.

Attaching too much importance to any given situation and acting out all your emotional angst. It's sort of a boring behavior if you really are that way you might want to curb your reactions. In the long run that behavior will cost you friends.
