on the exam table.. which is really embarrasing.. happened yesterday!! yikes, my butt still hurts

Yes. Many physicians still give IM Penicillin shots to help clear up strep throat. Thewy use a long acting slow release type Penicillin that will cure the problem up in about 5 to 10 days. Many people with Strep Throat find it hard to swallow and antibiotic pills can be rather large and difficult to swallow. So the Penicillin shot is the best route.

I haven't had a shot for strep throat in about 6 years. I only had a shot once out of the like 10 or more times I've had strep and that was because I couldn't swallow pills yet. I remember it hurt though!

I had it last year, and I got a penicillin shot because I had to do a singing competition the next day. It may hurt, but it's better than taking antibiotics. It's one dose, and it begins working after a few hours and you're good.
