What a creative question!

Sorry to answer it as realistically as I can rather then some witty snap response. Chances are the reward is offered by someone close to the missing person to help motivate others to take notice. So the reward would be money that probably belongs to the missing person anyway!

Alternatively if the reward is offered by the government and it is found the individual thwarted attempts by the authorities to find them they are more likely to be fined then rewarded.

Finally if the person is missing from loved ones by choice they would not turn themselves in as that defeats the purpose of running away in the first place.

Witty question but not witty scrutiny sorry.

Anything's possible. You can have a friend "pretend" to find you and then split the reward. :P
