How do you drive a 10 Speed transmission truck?

I can drive larger tandem axle vehicles with automatic transmissions. We recently bought a 10 speed (Hi/Lo) and I know it works different than a normal manual transmission. So how do you do it?

if it has a 2 speed rearend(a round swith on the side) it is as the last posted said splitting each gear, but if a full size tractor trailer truck(switch in the front) it is shifted as a 5 speed then split the front paddle and shift the other 5 gears. The one thing you forgot to note in the question is the size(weight class) of the truck. As for evilalfie who said it had to be a 15 speed, move your tonka toy delivery truck because the BIG DOGS are coming thru,................ there are many different tranny types, 9 -10-13-15-18 and i know because i have driven all of them.
not to be confused but then there is the question of what to do with a possible second switch----something you might want to know when you go on with another truck in the future,-------the color of the 2nd switch is what determines the tranny, red-13 speed,blue-15speed(usually a horseshoe 3 to 4th gear)

All larger trucks are delivered with the transmission shift pattern illustrated somewhere in the cab. It may be a decal on the dash board, on the sun visor, or most commonly on the shifter knob. Look for it and you will know for certain.

If it is, for example, an Eaton (Roadranger) you probably will never use the first 2 or 3 gears. I always started in 3 gear pulling up to 80,000 lbs. However 1st is handy if you are in lots of stop & go traffic.

I believe you shift the first 5 gears normally, then you flip a switch and you shift into the next 5 gears. 1-2-3-4-5, flip the switch 6-7-8-9-10. Of course there is also reverse which would be normally below where you shift into 5th gear.

not sure who these other so called drivers are, but they should stick to their automatic cars. straight shifthing 5 gears then switching to the next 5 only applies in a 15 speed. A ten speed has 5 gears, high and low range to each. 1st gear you will probably never use. start in second, low range, shift to second high(clutch and pop the button on the side of shift nob). drop next to low 3, then high 3. etc. As you gain confidence you will learn where you can skip the odd drop to a low range, depending on load and how hard the truck is working. If you can drive stick at all, it's easy, just get over the nerves and your gone.

Shift gears one through five. Flip the switch. What was the first gear position is now sixth gear. Shift six through ten using the same positions you used for the first five gears.
