itunes won't delete all of your songs from your ipod without asking. But it won't transfer the song on your ipod to the new itunes. Apple built in a block that way people couldn't go around and spread music around without paying. the only good way to get songs off your ipod is using a program called sharepod. here is the url to get it just fallow their instructions on how to use it. http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePod

I hope I helped solve your problem!!!

When you got the iTunes, did it ask for the Serial Number on the iPod? If it did, then that iTunes should be compatable with the iPod and it might wipe out all your songs from your iPod onto your laptop. You'll never knoiw unless you try!

Syncing iPods are a one-way street, it can only go from iTunes to your iPod (for more info on iPod use, go to Apple's iPod support website at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303632)

You CAN use your iPod like a big USB flash drive, BUT files you load this way aren't playable in the iPod, they just get stored in it. For more info on doing that go to:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61131.

If you want to move (or archive) your old iTunes library to a new computer, that can be done (hopefully you still have access to that?...if you don't, you'll have to start from scratch with loading music into iTunes, which would be a major bummer. But the method for moving an iTunes library from one computer to another can be found at:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173

Hope this helps!
