Hot soaks in the tub were the most helpful for me in late pregnancy. I always had hip pain & problems in late pregnancy because of damage done to them by sitting "W" style all of my life. Hot baths helped a lot, though, and I always slept better afterward, too.
Not to scare you, but with several of my labors, my hips were where I felt the most pain during contractions. Water helped immensely during labor as well-- if the hospital didn't have a birthing tub, or even a regular bathtub available, the shower did all right, too. Also, having my husband push in (hard!) on my hips during contractions felt really good. I remember thinking once, that if he didn't hold them together, they would pop off like the old Barbie doll's legs used to... LOL
I had all six of my babies naturally (drug-free), and my 4th was actually born in the water. Not to play favorites, but his birth was my favorite out of the lot. :)
Best of luck to you, and congratulations on your baby!
Edit: I slept with a body pillow propped between my knees, too. :) (Saw someone else who suggested it.)

Your body is gonna be sore, sorry to say. at 39 weeks yes time is coming soon. You arent going to explode, I promise. Everyone says rest right? hmmm you arent doing your normal routine and your body is responding. I found that I was more comfortable at night sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs. Be careful if you use a heating pad, too much isnt good for either of you. congratulations by the way

Oh my gosh! I can feel your pain, I am so sorry! I remember my hips would ACHE so bad. The only thing that helped me is to constantly change positions.....and I would use a heating pad as well. You can take Tylenol but that doesn't always help either. The good thing....you are 39 weeks and your hips will feel like new as soon as you have that baby!!! Good Luck:)))))

This is a tough one, but if you have a body pillow, lie on your side and put it between your legs. There really isn't too much you can do. I know exactly how you feel, I spent the last month of my last pregnancy (five months ago) tossing and turning.

That is the baby pushing down and getting ready for birth, but it doesn't necessarily give labor a time frame. Be patient and he will come when you least expect it.
