Genesis....we were just reading from it at my Why Catholic group for lent and it is a fascinating story in itself. And I don't consider myself overly religious.

Genesis and Leviticus so you can see the crazy ancient stories used by today's extremists to justify imposing their their intolerant views.
Turns out they make sense as a sort of 'how to survive as a small group in the desert and stay loyal to the leaders' handbook, but science and reason have long since rendered this stuff obsolete for modern societies.
Funny how extremist Islam also loves its ancient, obsolete stories.
And no, Noah didn't live for 500 years, didn't pile two of every animal on the ark, and snakes can't talk.

13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God.
This is the basis of humanity.

I would recommend John 3:16, because it explains to me how much God loves us. He let His Son die for our sins. And when we except Jesus and repent, our sins are forgiven and we have a promise of eternal life.
