Bluetooth is a device built into phones. Its used to transfer data between phones, at short range. to send data, bluetooth has to be enabled on both phones and needs to be paired up. A password is used to protect your phone from Bluejacking, so when you're say walking in the town and somebody might for examaple wants to send a virus or even use a remote dialer (to dial a premium rate number) without your knowledge, and you get a large phone bill, or run out of credit quickly. its a manual aurthorisation method to stop it unauthorised bluetoothing. The passcode is usually for zero's 0000 both phones need the password.

the password is to protect others bluetooth enabled phone. Without password, that phone can be accessed easily, and phone viruses can be transmitted to the phone easily. Bluetooth is for u to transfer files between 2 phones on the go, but the 2 phones in connection must be within a range of 10 metres, or else the bluetooth connection will be lost. For small file sizes, ranging below 200 kb, i recommend u using infra-red, it will be faster. Normally, the default password for bluetooth is 1234 or 0000, depending on the phonetype.

It would help me to help you if you I knew the phone and the type of blue tooth you have. I had a similar situation. I am on Version in Upstate New York and bought a new LG phone with a blue tooth ear piece from Motorola and it works great.
I had to call technical help to get the blue tooth operational. First we have to activate the blue tooth on the phone and you will find it some where in one of the menus - and this varies by phone. Once you have found the blue tooth activation bar you will have to choose which blue tooth you have so you should keep the packaging of your blue tooth ear piece
It is easier to call technical support and have them walk you through the set up because each phone and blue tooth is different in design and implementation.
The way in which the blue tooth works is once your phone recognizes the blue tooth ear piece that you should have bought all you do is turn on your phone interest the blue tooth into you ear and press a button and it will give you an signal - in my case it is a series of tones going up and then your phone will flash a white screen telling you are connected. - To turn your ear piece off press the same button again and you will tone signals that go down in tone and then you phone will indicate you are not disconnected.

The bluetooth is used like a head set, except it is not wired. The reason they ask you for a password is because you are able do a voice command and it can lead to the contacts, security, and internet. It can also run the bill.

Bluetooth is just a way to send things to each other. The password is for security so you cant be sending all sorts of rubbish to someone near you. If someone wants to receive your message or pic etc they'll tell you their password...

blue tooth is used to transmit information to other phones and also to be used as a wireless earphone for calls. the password is set by the other phone user that you want to transfer info from and it is to prevent others from taking files from your phone without permission.
