Hi,

You should not look at any salary less then 2000 Omani Riayal. I am not sure about the tax structure, but you should ask for accomodation included with it.
Also ask for a joining bonus as you will need to buy a few things as soon as you join there. If accomodation is not provided then you will have to shell out for agent fees for accomodation.

Based on your living style you will be able to save money in a year.

Also it depends which location the offer is in.
However bear in mind that the climatic conditions in the middle east are very hot.

I will also suggest you to look for adverts in the newspapers in Oman which states the normal range of salary for the position being advertised. You should look at job portal sites or even internet newspapers from Oman which will give you a better picture before you make up your mind. You should not feel that when you land in Oman you could have negotiated better.
Also dont base your salary on that you will be getting twice or thrice the amount you are earning in India. Since if you get in Omani Rial you will also spend in Omani Rial. Which means you have to compare with the living standards in Oman.
In the middle east UAE is very expensive place to live in. However comparatively Oman and Kuwait are lot cheaper. But as I said you should get the living index from the website which will give you a better picture.

Also one more thing the figure quoted of 2000 omani rial is good enough to make a decent saving as well as earning. You should not limit to this figure. Since it is also possible that you can get 5000 omani rial or more if you are a good surgeon. As I know of one very senior doctor who was paid about 10000 equivalent omani riyal. But he is a nuerosurgeon.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. Adopt the thumb rule.

How much money do you expect to live in the way you want in India?

Ask for the same figure in that countries currency.

After all, you spend 1 dollor in USA for an item that costs Re. 1 in India.
