I have a 2001 maxima automatic and it just recently started downshifting and upshifting to 1, 2 harsh..i feel it when it downshifts at 60km/h and when it downshifts to first..its very evident its downshifting! however, its not verrry hard...the downshift is wats worrying me..its too feelable
...the transmission flush had been done 20 000km's ago at 107 000km's ....does it need another one now because of rough driving? ...the shifts suddenly became apparent to me within this month or so
Any help would be deeply appreciated!

Once i accidently put it into reverse rather than neutral from drive and the car shut off. I quickly put it back into neutral though. This happened more than a month ago though.

these trans have a speed sensor in them and it shut the engine down so the trans would not over ride the comp and shift into rev. as for the 2-1 shift check the mounts for looseness. put it in gear with hood up and parking brake on hold brake and give it gas. try it in rev to if the motor jerks or moves more than 2 inch. replace the mounts if it moves in drive its the back if it moves in rev its the front. that can make shifts noticeable. but dont rule out that the trans is not going out. run and code check from this link below

The block heater has nothing to do with this issue. How many miles do you have on the car? Check,or have someone check the transmission fluid level. If that's okay take the car to a trans specialist and request a band adjustment or sensor replacement. You may need a new transmission

Block heater- no
Shifting accident -quite possibly -yet the shutoff is a safety mechanism to prevent ruining the tranny. If you didn't hear anything scary, I doubt you have too much of a problem there.
I know you said you had the tranny flushed, have you checked the fluid since?
I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but often times harsh shifting is simply the result of low tranny fluid. A very cheap and easy fix!

After checking the fluid level after warming up the trans. fluid by driving and parking on level ground with the engine running and trans. in park. with emergency brake on. If OK then take to a shop or 3 and have them give you an estimate to repair. then decide what to do.
