the answer is 4..
my solution:
5(x+4) -(x+2) = 8x+2
5x+20-x-2 = 8x+2
4x+18 = 8x+2
4x-8x = 2-18
-4x = -16
x = -16 / -4
x = 4

18-2=8x-4x
16=4x
