Heres the set up. I have
a ten gallon tank
5 neon tetras
Originally I had only 2 Danio's
I leanred that Danios are much happier with 5 or more so I bought three more to join the other two.
One Danio Died
a week or so goes by
Fatty (the female Danio) starts swimming upside down. (NOT DEAD very much alive and swimming.
I leave to by a little sperator and some peas to feed to her because it could possibly be a swim bladder problem.
I come back at the end of the day (I had work and bought these things before) and Fatty is deceased.

I remove The body of Fatty and despose of it accordingly.
I come back at the end of the next day (today) to find that the Danio that followed Fatty around OBSESSIVLY has died as well.
The only Danio I have left is one of the original 2 that I bought, this one is very shy and often hid in the plants. This Danio hardly if ever eats.
I speperated him with the seperator moments ago and plan on feeding him seperatly so that maybe he will eat and not fear Neons

Meow,
Danios are pretty hardy fish. So, probably. as someone already said, you got some unhealthy ones that were already almost gone. Danios do like lots of swimming room, but ten gallons has been enough for the ones I've owned. The one you called fatty was probably a female ready to spawn. The one that chased her around was probably a male wanting to be her mate. If you learn a few tricks, you can get them to spawn for you (once you learn to keep them alive). As far as the survivor being afraid of the neon tetras, I doubt that very much. I don't know of any fish that is afraid of a neon tetra (they are so mellow and easy going). If anything, the neons would be afraid of the danio. Some things to be aware of when keeping fish are:
1. Be careful not to overfeed. Just until they stop eating it.
2. Change 10% of the water at least once a month
3. Watch the temperature. Danios and neons like about 78-80 degrees
4. Plants will help keep your tank healthy
5. Learn about PH and Hardness of the water. Danios are very tolerant, but neons need a little acidity.

Sounds like you got into a bad batch of danios the second time around. your original plan was a very good one and I would stick with it if I were you. Find a store with some really healthy looking danios and add 3-4 more to the tank. That should make yours feel comfortable again.

Danios are not appropriate for a 10 gallon tank. Yes, they are small, but they need a lot of swimming room--a 10 gallon tank does not provide this for them. This causes stress for your fish...stress leads to disease.

Is your tank cycled? How long has it been set up? What are your water parameters? They should be as follows: ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrate-20 or less. If your water tests out differently, you have found the problem. Do frequent water changes.
