There is so much ignorance on this board.
The closest answer is Chuck's. Most people are not taught Native history at all.
Some are taught to deny it, they make up science so they don't have to feel guilty. It isn't as much glorification as it is ignorance, scientific racism, and continued oppression.
More about what is taught in schools about the mistreatment of Native people:
This information is often ignored. In fact in primary schools they still teach about Columbus as the Great discoverer of America. And the children still dress up as Indians on Thanksgiving and pretend it was a happy event. In high school books there is a little more truth but not enough to be truly educated. The majority of history education is written by the oppressors and so is not accurate. There are some, very few, teachers who choose to use alternative texts to teach history. These are the only ones who educate their students about the history of Native Americans and the U.S.
In college some learn the truth. This usually happens only if one takes Ethnic Studies courses. Most history and anthropology courses are taught by the oppressors and still teach ignorance.
Many in American believe Natives are going extinct or that they migrated from Asia or are savages or other cultural myths. Information about the true lives and history of Native people is just Not taught in the United States unless you seek it out or have an amazingly culturally competent professor.
I am a Native woman. I have been through the public education system and just graduated college. You can trust my word on this.

Years ago, that was somewhat true. In Montana in the 1960s, in the history books George Custer was a hero but by the late 60s, or early 70s, he was an idiot. It was still called Custer's Battlefield until the 1990s-now it's the Little Bighorn Battlefield. A lot has changed but not enough. All of the horrors I learned about the way Native Americans were treated weren't taugh until college-mostly my own research.

Very true, it’s not true; the massacres are not glorified; only the Spirits of the brave children, elders, women and men that gave their lives remain within the massacres that need prayers over their remains to free their Spirit’s of mans created hell on planet earth.
Then and only then will their Spirit's gain the glory of Creator, then they will remain within Creator's whispers forever more. Away from the greed that basically is under the heading of one should not steal no matter the written word of a someone somewhere lost in history..

regrettably, our international is perpetually changing. human beings combat for his or her place in it. some win and regrettably some might desire to lose. i'm between the "white" human beings. My spouse is a factor Creek and Cherokee and for this reason so are my teenagers. I certainly have constantly discovered early American history attractive and grew to become into taught in college with regard to the adjustments between the societies. i grew to become into no longer taught that the settlers have been all good ethical human beings. i grew to become into taught that the colonists did take great thing with regard to the actual incontrovertible fact that the Indians did no longer stay with the help of land possession. None of it extremely is purely good vs undesirable. It grew to become into 2 completely different societies colliding with tragic consequences for the Indians. As for history being written, i'm from the south and totally comprehend that the excellent certainty isn't informed. The Civil war grew to become into fought for competitively priced motives. of course i do no longer have faith in slavery, yet do have faith it grew to become into an afterthought for war propaganda. i've got faith human beings are triumphant and human beings are conquered. The question isn't in spite of if it grew to become into honest yet do all of us get alongside as individuals now. I actual wish so.

No it's not true. It is instead treated as a generic emotionless factoid taught to children who don't have enough life experience to realize what a cruel and heartless thing that it was and are therefore doomed to repeat the mistakes it represented.

NO...that is not true. We were told about how horribly some of the Native Americans were treated, and it was clearly stated as a time when ignorant people did stupid things.

Hearsay is not admissible and History was taught in my day that we were the good guys who were killing them, their women and children and stealing all their land!
Of course they never taught me that there was NOT ONE treaty made with the Indians that we ever kept! Not one! Makes me want to puke!
