WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales approved plans to fire several U.S. attorneys in a November meeting, according to documents released Friday that contradict earlier claims that he was not closely involved in the dismissals.
Is this more proof of the hypocrisy and lies dealt by this administration and its cohorts?

That traitor should be deported for pushing the Patriot Act on America. We are now a police state because of it. It makes me want to puke.

It is quite incredible that they left such a paper trail into this mess.

Since NO previous president has fired a group of federal prosecutors other than at the beginning of their first term - and these all were originally hired by the Bush administration - it has raised justified suspicion.

The part of the Patriot act that gives the president the authority to appoint prosecutors without Congressional oversight has obviously been abused since one of the replacements is a political campaign worker associate of Carl Rove with no judicial experience.

And the complaints from the fired prosecutors about being pressured by members of congress to either stop prosecuting republican associates, or start prosecution of Democrats without evidence just before the election are indications of the crime of tampering with prosecution.

If the truth comes out some people will have to be fired. The refusal to testify is probably a a stall while they search for someone to be the fall guy.

Oh my God you people...No, its not a crime to fire them. But the issue NOW is that Gonzales said he DIDNT have ANYTHING to do with it, and now all these documents come out showing he was all over it.

That is called perjury, ie lying, and if our Attorney General cannot manage to tell the truth about something as simple as this how can you trust him to interpret the Constitution?

WAKE UP! The issue isnt the firings, its the why behind them, ie...why is the administration trying to cover up the reasons behind the firings if it was completely legal?

One has to ask - if there is nothing wrong with the firings why is everyone involved lying about their involvement.

EDIT: I am LOL at those who are saying that approving the firings is not the same as being involved.

So people are saying it is the President's right to fire the attorneys and then they claim that the President and the AG and nobody close to them was involved with it. What, were they were fired by the janitor at the Justice Department?

Do you know how stupid that sounds????

It's pretty sad how ignorant these people are.

Clinton fired all 93 attorneys, several of which were actually investigating his numerous violations of the law in Arkansas. We never heard a word about it because he has the right to do that. It's not a great rule, but if one president can do it, can't others also do it?

Don't double standards bother anyone?

Yes -- it is a purge much like the ones they protested in Russia. No absolute agreement and you are out.

The attorneys serve at the will of the President. They can be fired for any reason. Stop making a non-issue into one.

So by what you are saying probably one forth of the people in the U S would be guilty of a crime, and every boss in the country should be arrested on a trumped up charge, maybe even your on mother or father
