I asked a similar question, "Why are white men afraid of dating black women?"
And when I was a child, I realized this and when my best friend and her family found out, I became ashamed because they teased me, so I never told anyone.
By the time I dated a white guy, I was 13. The only thing was that he asked me to go out with him.
My parents had a problem with it because he was a delinquent, not white and I was dating at a young age.
But, getting back to the situation at hand, one answer that I got was, "I think white guys are afraid they are white , and that black girls might not find their looks attractive"

Your friends and family probably don't HATE you for it. It's just that there's still this stigma that blacks and whites aren't meant to marry, date, or even be friends. For most people this just seems unnatural.
Here's my own personal experience:
I am white and have a white boyfriend. I have other white male friends and my boyfriend has never seemed to mind. But when I started hanging out with black guys (and girls), he was upset and even a little worried. After drilling it out of him, he finally confessed that he feared I would prefer to date a black guy because it was something "new and different".
I think this statement in itself proves that he (and probably your family and friends as well) still view blacks as a whole different "species". Sure, there are cultural differences. But they're no greater than between whites and Hispanics...but no one thinks twice about those anymore.
My advice: If you like the girl, try not to pay too much attention to what your family says (easier said than done, I know). When they get over the fact that she's black and get to know her for who she really is, I'm sure they'll come to accept her.

Deal with it, face reality, you're not a normal couple and you are going to get crap. I am in an interracial relationship myself. I am a bisexual male with a bi-curious female, I am white, she is black. I say deal, society is full of A s sholes anyhow, and they are not worth your time. Family probably is only worried about traditions. I doubt you are a pure blood, and I doubt your family are as well, by that i mean of a whole blooded race (Italian, Irish, English, etc.) and even if you are, you're in America where that sort of grouping is hard to find. Good luck, and forget what other people say, mind their own business.

If you like her, than forget about everyone else and go for it. People find it more acceptable when a black man dates a white woman and when it's reversed, they don't seem to like it.
I've dealt with that too many times. But I don't care anymore. They either can hate it or love it.

Who cares what people think, even if they are your family members. What does skin color have to do with attraction or love? My b/f is White and I'm 100% Black and he can care less what anyone says.

It's just the way humanity is these days. Rasism grows everday, it's one of the most horrible things in the world. I say just do what makes you happy, you shouldn't have to worry what other people think - they'll probrably get used to it anyway.

Color doesn't matter. Color of skin is well, only skin deep. You fall for the person inside not the outside of a person. Keep your head up and don't let people discourage you.

Not everyone will hate you for it. Narrow minded-people who think that one's skin color is reflective of one's personal traits may do so. If you really like this woman, does it matter what others think?

it's unfortunate and you should follow your heart. people feel you're marrying down when you date a black woman. the darker the woman, the lower you're going. it's sad and hopefully things will change for the better.

Crazy aint it? People couldn't care less if you're walking your dog and your dog is black. Or your dog is spotted. or your dog is tiny, or huge...
Yet with people, you must conform to what everyone expects, anything different is hard to accept. People suck.
