My friends and I are all fairly new coin collectors and have noticed that no coins, aside from Peace Dollars, seem to have been minted in 1922. We have all looked in various coin books and there are no coins listed for that year. Does anyone know why? Please provide links if possible. Thanks!

Due to the large mintage of coins issued during and after WW I say from 1916-1920 not a lot of coins were minted in 1921 or 1922. The coins of 1921 are Semi-key or in the case of the 1/2 dollars, key coins. There were plenty of coins around, same thing happened in the 1870's and that is why a lot of coin minted then are scarce. The 1877 Indian is a key coin and the rest of the 1870's command high prices. The economies at both times had also slowed down some. World war I was over as well as the Civil War so at both times things slowed down some. You may be beginners but you are on the right track. A coin collector collects coins, a numismatist collects coins, but also know the history behind the coins he collects and does research.

Lincoln Cents and $20 double eagles were also minted in 1922. I would guess that the economy was weak in 1922 and businesses did not need any other types of coins for everyday use. The same thing happened ten years later during the depression.
