A vaginal yeast infection is irritation of the vagina and the area around the vagina, called the vulva. It is caused by an overgrowth of the fungus or yeast Candida. Yeast normally live in the vagina in small numbers, but when the bacteria in the vagina become out of balance, too many yeast grow and cause an infection.

Vaginal yeast infections are very common. About 75 percent of women have a yeast infection during their lives. And almost half of women have two or more yeast infections.

The most common symptom of a yeast infection is extreme itchiness in and around the vagina. Other symptoms include:
Burning, redness, and swelling of the vagina and the area around it
Pain when urinating
Pain or discomfort during sex
A thick, white vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese and does not have a bad smell

A woman's vagina always has yeast in it. The body has a fine balance, and generally has exactly the right amount of yeast. Sometimes, though, due to a wide variety of things (stress, sitting around in a wet bathing suit, taking certain antibiotics), the yeast begins to grow more than it should. When that happens, it becomes very uncomfortable for the woman. She will notice a thick, foul-smelling vaginal discharge and will be extremely itchy. If she is having sex, it is possible that she could pass the infection to her partner, who could then pass it back once she is better, starting a difficult cycle.

It is also possible to have a yeast infection in the mouth, referred to as Thrush. It is common in people with decreased immune systems, like AIDS patients, and also in infants who are breastfeeding. In that case, the infant and mother usually pass it back and forth, mouth to breast. It is very painful for the mother, and it is a huge pain in the neck to get rid of, as both mother and baby have to be on medication, plus anything else the baby puts in its mouth (pacifiers, toys, blankets) has to be treated every day to kill the infection. Yeast is a stubborn little organism.

Yeast infection "candida" infects the mucosa of mouth, anus, and labia, and in the colon. It is very prevalent in the States.
It thrives well on sugar, sugar found in fruit, not only in starches and pastries.
Then there's yeast, or fungal infections in the skin, as in the external genitalia (jockstraps during sport help to prevent it and then when showering, need to dry the areas well). Fungus of feet, and between the toes, toe nails is very common. Less common is found in the fingernails and often that is from scratching the feet, toes and it infects the finger nails. On the skin and external surfaces it is easy to rid it, with special fungal powders, but in the nails it is almost impossible. In the intestines it means:- change your diet, no sugary or sweet food. Read up on diets for fungal infections.
Fungus is a form of mushroom, it grows and spreads, it is without a vascular supply, likes dark damp places. It is also mold, smuts and yeast.

yeast is a type of fungus that occurs on the skin in moist areas, even the mouth. although its common on women to have them in their "special" area. you get a yeast infection when new yeast is brung into the vagina or when theres too much yeast causing the infection. the result is a really burning, itching. and sore crotch that can also discharge or be painful during sex. if you have a yeast infection. you shud get medical treatment.. i dont think anyone would object to that!.
their fairly common. pretty much every woman will get one at least once in their life, and their pretty treatable too.

you can get a yeast infection from many things. if you don't keep yourself good and dry in that area you can get, a lot of women get them from wearing wet bathing suits for a long period of time.
you start to get really itchy in that area, and that follows with creamy white discharger that usually doesn't smell very nice, some womens discharge is actually a light green color.
you can get over the counter treatment for this. connestan is good, or monastate.
