Yes. While announcing a baseball game I made an announcement to clear the field and stands for the safety of everyone, while a thunderstorm blew over. About a half hour later the game resumed.

Depends on whats major and how large a group? I've made an announcement to a group of over 500 people.... but it wasn't major.
