why is animal testing STILL such a big issue when people know it's cruel and when they would be having a field day if it was being done to humans?

i know it's all about money with some of these companies, but if they want it so bad, why don't they test these products on themselves?!?!?

brooke:
i'm a vegetarian, btw.
so i don't eat animal flesh because i know how many animals are suffering and dying there, as well.
but i was just addressing the testing issue because to me, it shouldn't be done.
that is not to say that i think people should eat animals, but a lot of people eat it as part of getting the nutrients they need that way.

and no, i'm not saying that human life is second to animal life, they are both equally important.
you are making it sound like human life is above all other life.

i just think that because it's not even going to be helping animals, it's wrong to be testing on them.
animals react differently to certain things, so saying it's helping humans might not be the case everytime.

First of all, animal testing is now mainly used for medical research. In the year 2007 only 4 cosmetic companies test on animals. Also, animal testing cruel but it is beneficial. The reason ppl still test on animals is to find cures for cancer or AIDS. I'm sure you heard of the polio, TB, rabies, measles, smallpox etc.. vaccines. So a few animals died, but those animals saved thousands of human lives and generations to come. By saying animal testing is wrong, you are saying animal lives are more valuble than human lives. Also, by saying animal testing should be banned, you are also saying all Americans should be vegans. 3 million animals die in the US annually for medical research. However, 7,000 calves, 130,000 cattle, 360,000 pigs and 24,000,000 chickens slaughtered EVERY DAY for human consumption. Those animals, especially those in factory farms, suffer alot. Opposed to a small percentage of animals in pain during medical research. The rest are under anesthetists.

It's a double edged sword..it is for the betterment of mankind (at least in the medical field)..as far as for make-up and such....it's to protect against lawsuits...that is where it is inexcusable!

Because, if they die, then that will set things back quite a bit.
