The grading scale is A, P, B, BB

I believe receiving a B is similar to receiving a "D"

My question is for Elem Teachers who use the scale of A, P, B, BB.

How often do you hand out B's and BB's

For example in a classroom of 20 first graders how would the grades looks on the reports? Lots of B's? or very few?

The grade should reflect what the student has learned. If you are handing out many B's or BB's then that means that those students have not learned.

I think that it is more important to work with a child so that they actually learn the material and hand out more A's and P's then to try to have a curve and place out lower grades.

It is possible that there are no low grades at all; if of course every student can show that they have learned the material. If the students are not learning the material then something needs to be done on the part of the teacher.

I don't support the philosophy of grading based on enrollment versus ability and achievement. I've had trimesters where 5 students earned honor roll and other trimesters where I had 15 of 30 with honor roll.

It's going to differ group to group. Why bother keeping a grade book if only 2 students get A's and 5 more get P's?
