I am flying home to VA from San Diego next week, and I was thinking of taking a day layover in Dallas-Fort Worth. Would there be anything interesting to do to make it worth my while? It would need to be close to the airport, as I would not bother with a rental car.

If you want to enjoy yourself, spend a day at the new Gaylord Texan resort hotel on the shores of Lake Grapevine, just north of the DFW airport. They have airport shuttles, and would also have shuttles to other nearby places of interest, such as downtown Grapevine which is charming for its traditional Texan flavor. As others have mentioned, Grapevine Mills Mall is also nearby if you feel an urge to shop or to see a movie or just people watch - lots of activity there.
