Ear Candeling! Look for the candles at your local health food store have someone put the pointy end in your ear and light the other end. As the candle slowly burns down they will need to trim the wax so have a bowl of water ready. It should burn down to about 1.5 to 2 in from your ear. Drape a towel around your head to avoid accidental burns. It relieves the pain and the candle creates a suction that removes the infection from your ear.

Go to a Health Food store and pick up some ear candles. You'll need some help, especially if you've never used them before. Ear Candles are hollow tubes of linen that are tapered at the end and are coated with beeswax. You'll need a paper plate and a glass of water nearby. Cut a hole in the center of the plate, stick the candle through the hole. it should be a snug fit. place the tapered end in your ear, and lite the top of the candle, The plate acts like a visual barrier, and protects you. The flame draws built up ear wax in the ear canal. You should hear some pops and cracks. When the candle burns down 3/4 of the way dip it in water to extinguish the flame. Afterwards you should follow up with sweet oil, or Murine ear drops. Peroxide also works. 3-4 drops should do it, twice a day. It's interesting to cut open the remaining part of the candle to see how much ear wax was expelled. I have health insurance but would rather try to solve a problem like this naturally instead of going to the ER. If you feel you must see a DR see if there are any Urgent care clinics in your area. It's usually cheaper, and the wait isn't as long.

take a clean long sock, most likely a mens sock, put about a cup of rice in the sock and heat it in the microwave for about a min. then put it on the ear that is hurting and take some pain med. not only does this take away the pressure causing the pain but if you do this often enough it will drain the build up in your ear

or

Ear aches are sometimes water trapped in the eustachian tube. I have found that using a blow dryer about 12 inches away from the head and on medium heat will calm the crying child

My friends parents used to blow smoke into her ear through a rolled up newspaper. But that won't get rid of the infection it just relieved some of the pain.

My friend uses warm olive oil and she reckons that works although I have never tried it. You can get ear candles - Thermal Auricular Therapy (also known as Hopi Ear Candles) is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions. The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax. A constant high quality is ensured.
The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle "chimney", although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.
Though results may vary from patient to patient, some of my clients have reported Hopi Candles to be helpful with:

Excessive or compacted wax in the ears (see patients comments)
Irritation in ears and sinuses
Pressure regulation in cases of : sinusitis / rhinitis / glue ear / colds / flu / headaches / migraine
Stimulation of local and reflex energy flow
Energetic revitalisation in cases of hearing impairment
Relaxing and calming effect in cases of stress
Noises in the ears, ringing, tinnitus

Just google Hopi Ear Candles to find out more and where to get them.

I do worry about heat on infected areas halley, but it does ease the pain. try herbs with antibiotic properties such as sage, astralagus or st john's wort. add garlic to your food and honey is a good antimicrobial too.
