Political scientists say the 40-40-20 split is a a given year after year. Furthermore the 20 percent splints into a near dead-heat in recent elections. The Gore loss is a perfect example. So it would appear only roughly 5% are totally in charge of the 2008 election. Do you trust those 5% to go your way? Do you know much about that 5%? They do not ever decide until the last minute. They are a wild card. But there is a wild card when an independent like Perot or Nader step in and attract only a small percentage. Are locked in Dem or Pub? Are you part of the wavering 10%? Or would you, say, vote for the Green Party and damn where the cards fall?

I would have to say that it was accurate, will it be this election? I doubt it. People are finally starting to realize that both parties are pretty much in Washington for power, not the people. I will keep my fingers crossed that someone will show up as an Independent, that will get some coverage & shake things up. As long as we have only two parties with a strangle hold on power it will be the same ol crap.

It's actually closer to a 35-35-30 percent split. And what really amazes me is that 30 percent who cannot seem to make a decision one way or the other until election day. My gosh! They've had months and months to weigh out the facts, figures, etc., yet up until election day they are "undecided"..... I just don't get it... So, in other words, I don't trust anyone out of that 30 percent to make an intelligent choice whatsoever!

I dont know the percentages, but it is probably about equal for the two parties with the election being decided by a small percentage of independents in a few states.

I personally wont waste my vote for a third party candidate. I also want to see the electoral college abolished and have direct elections.

I guess my vote must be one of the important 20%, because I don't adhere to party lines, I vote for the person I think is best. Oh, lucky me!
