im 16 years old and i have three unexcused absences in 2 classes. (14 total absences if you add my other absences in the rest of my classes)

I have no idea, but you can't go to the bathroom these days without spending money, so I'll go with, it's gonna cost you some $$.

Don't yah just love Texas?? this is the same state that is talking about charging PARENTS with a misdemeanor if they don't attend parent conferences.
truancy court is like any other court... you have the chance to respond to the "charges". Are they valid charges? Lots of absences. My daughter was "charged" for truancy, because she didn't think it was critical to turn in Dr. notes for valid medical appts. We provided proof that the absence was valid, but she was negligent as far as the notes.
IF you are cutting class... the shoe fits, and you may have to wear it.
The premise here is that by making truancy a prosecution thing (and parents can be liable), the parents will use more "control" to insure the child attends school. Complete waste of energy, in my opinion. If kids are cutting class, they should fail the class and be accountable for their own problems.

Give a bit more info and we can answer you. What are the charges in particular? Are they first offense? How old is the child? Are the parents income deficient?
