Well, there are rankings which claim to be able to tell you which is the best college. These are based on criteria such as student/faculty ratios, instutional research reputation, post college placement success, and other factors. The rankings can be important, but there are a lot of things about colleges that they do not measure.

But the reality is that colleges, universities, etc. are very different from each other, and people are very different from each other. The best college for one person may be the worst one for someone else.

The best college in the world for you all depends upon what you are looking for. To find it, you ask yourself such questions as:

1. Do I want a tough academic environment, where I may have to work all the time, or do I want more life balance?

2. What type of people do I want to spend the next four years with?

3. Do I know what I want to study, or do I need a college which has more flexibility, so that I can decide what I like once I am there? If I want to study something very specific, where do they have that?

4. Are the college surroundings and atmosphere important to me? Do I prefer a college in a busy city, or in the middle of nowhere, or in between?

5. How far away from home do I want to be? Will I have friends I already know attending at the same time?

6. Am I looking at college as something I want to enjoy, or as a challenge I want to take on, or as both?

7. Is financing college a problem or a consideration?

In the end, everything is easier if you like your college, and you have to do some research and field work to find out which you really like.

Depends. Europeans will usually look at Oxford, Cambridge, and la Sorbonne whereas Americans will think of Harvard, Yale, Princeton... etc etc... people from other parts of the world probably know other universities that compare, but sadly I don't know them.
Maybe you meant to ask what is the best college in the US?

Depends on what you want a degree in. Some colleges specialize in a specific field and while others in a different field. For Example: Harvard would be one of the top law schools while MIT would be one of the top business schools (I'm using broad topics)

It depends what you're looking for: a party school, a school that will get you a good job, a school to help you make lifelong friends, ect. It's impossible to name an overall "GREATEST COLLEGE IN THE WORLD" award to any one college.

there isn't a right answer for that. it depends on what you want to study. the worlds best science school probably isn't the world's best creative writing school.
