He was actually king for 17 years, and arguably a good one. Shakespeare did a few hatchet jobs in his plays: Richard III and Macbeth being the worst examples.

One of the reasons the play seems to be so compressed is that current text is, almost certainly, an abbrevated version of the original play.

Not nearly long enough. Malcolm and Mc Duff plan an invasion of Scotland. I would assume it took a few weeks to plan an invasion, gather together an army, weapons etc. At least more than a few days. Pax - C.

the play feels like days but after almost every act a certain time period passes like a week or couple of days so you cant really predict how long he was king, i remember him be king from Act 2 till end of the book
