Say if you have made the same mistake five times over or you make similar mistakes ten times over, then what can be done to re-gain the trust of the people around you?
Making a mistake once isn't really the end of the world - talking about the Miss USA question here.

Is it really possible to change your reputation if you've now come to be known as a party animal/trash/drunkard/junkie?

if you get it wrong that many times, it's not really a mistake - it's something about the way you are

Even if you have made mistakes many times over, it isn't the end of the world. What you need to do is to learn how to learn from your mistakes and come out the better for them.

It is possible to change your reputation from bad to good, although it is much easier vice versa. Firstly, you need to tell a large group of people that you are going to change your lifestyle, so it not only gives credibility to you but also motivates you, since you cannot go back on your word. Then, you would do well to draw out a list of "deadlines" on when you would want to achieve a certain goal, for example, drinking thrice a week by february, reduced to drinking twice a week by march, and drinking only once a week by april. Of course, you require self-control, but if you really wish to change, YOU CAN DO IT.

Didn't Jesus say to forgive your brother 7 times 70? The Jewish Preists of the time said to forgive once, some said 3- the point Jesus was making is to forgive as often as required.

On the other hand, anyone that keeps doing the same mistake and doesn't learn from them, might have either an emotional, or rational mental blind spot and can't see the damage.

It IS possible to change your reputation. BUT, you must be willing to put in the work to do it!! If people are going to trust you, then you must become trustworthy in their eyes. You do this, one step at a time!!

It takes time, but is well worth it!!
