I live in Australia and NOBODY give their twins matching names like 'Sharon and Karen' or 'Brodie and Jodie'. I rarely even hear of same initial twin names, like 'Alison and Anthony' or 'David and Danielle'.

Where do you live?
Are 'matching' twin names common where you live?
Do you think they're cute or cheesy?

THANKS!

I feel that the matching names are cheesy. It seems like it would be harder to call them by the right name (its hard enough with different names). They are individual people and deserve that when it comes to their name. I dress them in the same outfit in different colors because they are not old enough to pick their own clothes and it is easier to pick out one outfit and not have to worry about one having a cuter outfit then the other.

Almost always cheesy.

My grandmother and her twin sister are Jean and Jane. Their nephews are Dan and Dave. Jean and Dan both had twins themselves, but gave them non-matching names (probably because they all said they wished they could have been given names that didn't match).

On the other hand, I think there's such a thing as names that are too far apart - the Bush twins, Jenna and Barbara, come to mind, with one trendy and one traditional name. So I'd say that twin names should be harmonious, but not indistinguishable.

I know a few sets of twins. One set have rhyming names (Darin & Carin) and they really like that their names rhyme and are spelled differently. I have another set of twins as friends named Amber and Stephanie. They really like having different names. I think that rhyming names for twins are kinda cheesy, but I think that names coming from the same era, initial, or origin for twins gives them an extra bond without being smothering or too cheesy.

Matching twin names are pretty common in Australia. I know lots of twins of varying ages who have matching names. I also live in Australia and no I don't live in some weird area of Australia. I live in the capital of one of the states in Australia. I think twin names which are matching are sometimes nice such as sharing the same 1st letter or the the same number of syllables.

I personally love Emily and Madison for twin girls and Benjamin (Ben) and Rory for twin boys and Emily and Michael for twin boy/girl twins.

I don't mind twin names starting with the same letter (for instance Scarlett and Sabrina) just as long as they aren't too similar. Kiley and Kaylee together would be WAY too much!

I dislike rhyming names for twins or siblings in general.

I am not a fan of cutesey twin names, but I would like the names to sound decent together.

I went to school with twins whose names were Andrew and Andrea (andy and andy) they did not think it was very cute. I hate rhyming names, but I think names that have a common thread are nice; such as two names out of the same book (just not really obvious like hansel and gretel or romeo and juliet) or bible names, celtic names, etc.

I think matching is way cutier. I love it. Im in USA!!! California!!! And alot of people do it all the time. I very rarely hear twins names that have nothing to do with each other (like Lauren and Mary) I think if you have twins, you should match the names.

I don't like it, because then they don't really have a seperate personality from their twin..... i am having twins in 2 weeks, and we picked our names out yesterday......before we made our final decision, i asked people on Yahoo! Answers, because i was having trouble with the second name, and people were telling me to name them stuff like.......
Skylar Kay & Kylar May
Brie Anna & Leigh Anna
I think that even though they are twins, that they should be different in some way or another, and that their names should be completely seperate.....

The names we ultimately decided on:
Scarlett Amberlee Johnson &
Delanie Ranae Johnson

i live in the states

I don't know really know any twins, but I a pair and girl and boy and their names are Sam(girl) and Colin and then there are triplets I know and their names are Sara, Stephanie and Shannon. I think it is really cute to give twins rhyming or start with the same letter names. I really want twin girls named Jaelynne and Kaelynne
Rylie and Kylie
Grace and Chase(boy and girl)
Haley and Hayden
Those are my favorites, but for just a single boy I LOVE Josiah Christopher
