I sure wish there was, where is the justice department defending our rights not to have to deal with monopolies?

You can join the political process. In a representative democracy the majority rules if they pay attention and defeat the effects of money spent by corporations. You can agitate to remove the monopoly status by franchising two cable systems or by having the community own the cable and auctoning the rights to it.
Broadcast TV still works and now delivers HDTV better than the other two. You can watch more and more over the Internet. You can rent from Netflix. You can ignore the boob tube, go outside, and play in the springtime.

Something needs to be done. When my bill went up another eight dollars this month I turned in my cable boxes and no longer have any movie channels. If I really want to watch something I will rent it I am just not willing to pay the high cost anymore.

I think it depends on where you live. In my (little) town, there is only one service provider and they stink, and are expensive. There aren't enough people here to support competition, so I guess it is better than nothing, but hopefully the future holds more acceptable options.

You'll have to give up TV or open your own. I'll support you.
