AntiVir is free, fast, good, updated far more often than Norton, and doesn't use anywhere near the resources that Norton and some of the others use.

I've tried McCaffee, Norton, AVG and Avast and I prefer Avast. AVG was OK but the free version is very limited and Avast found problems that Norton and AVG never found. The home edition is free.
http://www.avast.com/ I also use SpyBot Search & Destroy for sypware, also free.

I've been using it for years with no nag screens or problems at all. I also use Windows Defender for Spyware protection--free from Microsoft.
