At age thirteen you should not do any weights except the hand held dumbells. You are still growing and the growth plates in your bones can get compressed and stunt your overall bone growth.

The best exercises now are aerobic (running and conditioning) and calisthenics (push ups and sit ups or stomach crunches). Running will develop your leg strength and endurance (wind); the other exercises will develop your core (torso) strength. Both of these are important for success.

Long toss is good as long as you use the proper throwing motion that is balanced, using your entire body and not just your shoulder and arm. You can hurt your arm if you do not use the proper form. One thing that is often overlooked is wrist strength for the final wrist snap at the point of release when throwing. Get a rubber ball (not a Nerf, not a superball) and squeeze that. This will develop wrist strength that will help in both throwing and hitting. A rubber ball (about the size of a tennis ball) is also quiet enough you may even be able to do the exercise while in class.

My husband played third base in high school and suggests that you find a tennis ball and a brick wall. Stand 10 to 15 feet away from the wall, throw the ball against the wall as hard as you can so it comes back to you as a ground ball. Don't forget to work the left and right and put your hand in front of your face to trap the ball. This will help you get ready for fast ground balls to the hot corner.

Well Ben, I am a baseball umpire for my baseball league in Canada near Toronto and to say here are some of suggestions. 1. Find a rubber band that is about 3ft long (1 metre) and use it for stretching lying down on the ground to help the muscles if that is for physical activity. 2. have some one hit baseballs to you help with movement. If you want to expand more of this contact me via e-mail for more specifics your more then welcome to do so.

You're 13. skip the weights until you get into High School. Right now just play as much as you can and work on your technique. Work on the basics now and work on strength later. It doesn't matter how strong you are if you can't play the position right.
