My 18 month old Dell Dimension 3000 runs perfectly in every way, but a couple weeks ago the fan started running extremely loud (at all times). The case is not in the least bit warm to the touch so I guess it is some kind of internal issue. Has anyone ever dealt with this same problem (with such a fairly "new" computer)? Please share whatever knowledge you have and try to help me! Thanks a million!

The dust other answers mentioned is quite possible, as an additional step I can recommend having a vacuum with a hose handy because if there's alot of dust/fluff on the inside of the PC blowing it about with a can of air will create a cloud that'll cause you to choke till it clears *grin* the suction from the vacuum will help with that quite a bit, as towards having to replace a fan that may be necessary though try the cleaning first.. if you're even reasonably handy with fixing things fans are Very easy to do so, there are several different manufacturers and you can even get them with colored led lights and such things to liven up your case if interested(added bonus a case fan of various sorts rarely goes over $10 or so in cost)

Back in the days when I had a REALLY crappy computer that whenever you turn on the fan would make a weird vibration noise. Simply banging it lightly right on the fan fixed the problem. So you can try that.

I do have 2 questions though. Does your fan have two speeds, a high and a low, like most modern computers today? And if so, does it run at the high speed? And how long? Whoops, that's three, hope you won't mind. But please contact me and I would be glad to help you further.

Hope I can answer your question! Feel free to contact me with your solution or any other problems/details at any time, either on Yahoo! Messenger or by email.

When my fan runs loud this usually means the heatsink behind the fan is clogged with dust. So your fan is working harder to get the same amount of cooling. Just go buy a can of compressed air and spray that clogged dust out of your heatsink

well ther is 3 fans in that make of computer, and it most likly is dirt, or a bit of fluff it happens to alot of people, but if i was you just in case i would back up all my file ( always a good idea) and sent it into a repair shop incase its the cpu fan and all goes bye bye, from over heating.
