I am pet sitting a couple dogs and they are being left in the fenced in big yard.
I went to check up on them and their food bowl was full of ANTS.
is there anyway i can prevent the ants from getting into their bowl.
I threw away the food and rinsed out the bowl. i dont want to keep wasting the food. is there something i can do with the bowl?
It has to stay outside bc i dont have access to the inside
thanks

If you head out to a petstore, there is a dog bowl that has a particular rim on it, that actually helps keep ants and non flying insects out of the bowl.

DONOT use ant poison around the dog, regardless of whether the dog is blocked off from the area. Never take the chance.

There's a product called:
"Miraculous Insecticide Chalk"
and it's Made in China... that's all I know!
It comes in a little box about 1" x 1" x 3" or so long, and you have to find it on your own; maybe a swap meet, or a Chinese friend, or ?
It DOES work though, 'cause that's what my Mom uses around her outdoor cat food bowl !
(It's some kind of pesticide chalk and you just "draw" a circle around anything you don't want crawling bugs to get to; ants, roaches... Amazing!)

Keep moving the food. You could also try putting Vaseline around the bowl, the ants don't like the feeling of it and they won't climb in. It won't hurt the dogs if they accidentally get it on them or ingest it.

try to move there bowl away from the area it was at. Then find out where the ants are coming from. Put ant poison where there coming from and block the dogs from getting to it. Good Luck.
