Hi, my 8 week old had been consipated ever since she was 3-4 weeks old. she will go once every 3-4 days and it is a soft stool, she screams and crys when she's trying to go. And just in the last week she has been throwing up alot. She also doesn't eat as much as she use to. Any suggestions on how to help her, would be great. Someone told me that it could be the formula im using. I used the same President's choice formula on my son and he was fine. any thoughts

See your Pediatrician.
Also, keep her hydrated, all the pooping and vomiting is dehydrating her.

you might try soy formula my kids were all different 2 had to have soy and the middle one would take anything. Also if the formula is the type with iron get the type without iron. You can also give her some water between feedings that will help with the constipation. She may have some sort of virus that is making her sick you should call the Dr and ask for advise. Remember that both kids are not the same what works for 1 may not work for the other.

I'm assuming she has seen the pediatrician, and she is gaining weight, and her measurements are in line with her age. If so, I would recommend switching her formula to Enfamil LIPIL, low-iron. In addition, I would probably ask the doctor about a suppository and see if that will help get her over the hump until the low-iron formula makes some changes in her digestive tract. If the throwing up, or "reflux" does not subside, try adding a little rice cereal to the bottle. About 1 tablespoon, to be exact. I also forgot until just now...I bought Gerber prune/apple juice for babies and put one ounce of that in my daughter's bottle as well. That REALLY helped her bowl movements become more regular. I recommend this as well.

your baby could be lactose intolerant and need to switch to a soy based formula, try switching to soy and see if the vomiting stops, as for the pooping, sounds like she's constipated because she is dehydrated from not eating like she should be and throwing up a lot of what she is eating. It's not uncommon for newborns to need formula adjustments in the first few weeks, talk to your pediatrician, there are all kinds of formulas on the market for milk based allergies, colic and spitting up, may just need to change her formula for all to be well . Good Luck!

I would check into the formula. It may be an alergy to it. Perhaps she needs soy. I wouldn't let it go any longer because this is hard on their little systems. Call your doctor before you change formulas. There are lactose-free types out there too. Hope you find a good one sweety. I feel bad for her., and you. Perhaps a little apple juice w/ water to dilute it would help too. If you are not nursing, I would try just an oz to see if that helps

It is normal for a baby to only have one bowel movement a week sometimes, maybe it is the formula. Just because it worked with your son doesn't mean it will work with her. Call her doctor, she might be dehydrated if she is throwing up and not eating as much.

Every child is different, so everything that worked on your son probally wont work on your daughter. Kinda like when you think you got something figured out, it all changes. :) Sounds like she may have milk allergies and acid reflux. My son was the same way. The DR said he had milk allergies and it all continued. Then I started reading online and doing my own research and deicded my son for sure had acid reflux. The DR ignored me. So I took my son to the ER because it was so bad one night and even the ER dr diagnosed him with acid reflux. We obviously got a new DR they done an upper GI and sure enough my son had acid reflux. We put him on Enfamil Nutramigen formula and it makes him poop like a pro! And we got him some antacid medicine for the spitting up and acid pain with the spit up. Also my sons was bad enough we had to put rice cereal in his bottles. He is such a happy baby now! But as for the constipation please please, for the sake of your little ones tiny belly switch to Nutramigen formula...it really is god sent! It is expensive but if you can get ur dr to agree your baby needs it, then he can give u a prescription and your insurance will cover it, even if you have state insurance! Good Luck!

Every child is different, perhaps your child is allergic to this particular brand of formula. It is important that you get a second opinion. A baby is suppose to poop everyday and more than once a day. I honestly believe your child may not be able to handle this formula. Maybe she vomits because her body must expel this particular brand of formula any way possible. My cousin's baby is actually allergic to dairy so he eats a non-dairy formula.

Infants don't have daily bowel movements. Some babies scream and cry...it might hurt when she goes...As for the throwing up, take her to the doctor.

Stimulate her rectum with a thermometer and vaseline. all you do is poke it in slightly and out. Verry gently and just like taking a rectal temp. And Also call your pediatrician asap. Also talk to them about what formula she is on and whether you should change it. Different baby different needs.
