"Italian cuisine is extremely varied: the country of Italy was only unified in 1861, and its cuisines reflect the cultural variety of its regions and its diverse history (with culinary influences from Greek, Roman, Norman and Arab civilizations). Italian cuisine is imitated all over the world.

To a certain extent, there is really no such thing as Italian cuisine in the way that one usually understands national cuisines. Each area has its own proud specialties, primarily at regional level, but also even at provincial level. Italian cuisine is not only highly regionalised, it is very seasonal. The high priority placed on the use of fresh, seasonal produce distinguishes the cuisine of Italy from the imitations available in most other countries".

Think about the factors you mentioned.
The Italians use whatever is local to their environment. So geography and climate would be very important. For example, the further south the hotter it is. Therefore there would be greater use of salad vegetables. Meal patterns would be more casual. The further north the cooler and more mountainous it is. Closer to other influences such as Swiss or French.

In the case of religion, Catholicism is the main religion so there would also be no meat on fridays in lent and a resulting need for the development of seafood or fish related meals.
Beliefs and attitudes are largely influenced by history, tradition and religion.

As for economies and level of technological development, the more advanced you are the greater the availability of other products, resources and and ideas.

Okay, I won't do your homework for you -- but an example of what your are looking for is: Cheeses are almost exclusively used in northern Italy due to the availability of dairy in that region and the cost. The northern 1/2 being wealthier than the southern.......... etc..

The answers will come to you as you do your research. Start with geography and farming. Supply and demand effects every culture.

I think you are looking for someone to do your homework.

Try google.com.... wikipedia.com also has some good information w references. Sometimes the information is not accurate, but for something as general as that, it is pretty good.

Shoot, I remember having to go to the library and researching books to do my homework......... internet wasn't as widespread as it is now. You are lucky!!!!! (i'm not that old, but im starting to sound like my dad, lol)
