Which is better, an AMD Athalon X2, or an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and what is the difference?

core 2 is better but for your need an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ will be a good choice and it's almost 100$ cheaper than the core2 e6300 on newegg.com
