It gives you all the requirements you need before you take the exam. Once you've completed the required classes, you apply to take the Real Estate Exam.

Basically, you need a license from the state.
You have to take a test, pay a fee, and probably pass a minimal background check. The test won't be terribly hard, especially if you take a course.
How you get one, you could call the state capitol, and just ask whoever you can get who issues those, and talk to them.
Or you could ask any real estate agent. You probably know some, even if you don't realize it.
Or you could look in the phone book for "real estate course".
What they will NOT teach you is how you really do the work of a realtor. You need to find someone that will do that, and study sales on your own.

Go to the california official state government page. Look up real estate licensing. It will tell you what you need to do to become licensed. You need to take the Principles of Real Estate class and have a high school diploma and then take the test. Community Colleges offer the class, many real estate firms will reimburse you for the class and licensing fees.

You enroll in and complete a Ca state accredited curriculum.(few weeks)
Pass the school exam and receive certificate of completion.
Then you take the cert and some money to the State exam.
Pass the exam and receive a "sales persons certificate"
Then you get hired by a Licensed Real Estate Broker and you hang your certificate with him./her and that "activate" your license status for the state. Your license is only active when you are employed by a licensed broker. You can go on your own when you acquire your own "broker" license.

You can go to an open house for any of the leading real estate agencies in california. Where I am there are Long & Foster, Weichert, etc....they all have open houses for people who want to be RE agents.
You go there and they tell you about their training program to become an agent.
You will need to take classes and be licensed in CA.
