It depends on what exactly you want to do. If you just want to listen to raw music, 1000 songs, for example, then get an iPod. If you want games and maybe a couple of songs, depending on your budget when getting a memory card, then get a PSP.
1GB is approx. 250 songs (assuming each song is exactly 4 minutes long)
