I recently re installed XP and for some reason i just cant get the internet to work. I have a sky broadband connection and i have tried all the basics to no avail. As far as i can remember i used to connect through alocal area connection but i no longer have a LAN icon in my network connetion and dont now how to get it back. I have tried using the setup wizard and all that but it is just not happening.

Right Click on your My Computer Icon and Choose Manage. Go into Device Manager under system tools. Look for any yellow exclamation points or Questions Marks. If you see some - Do what was mentioned before - Got to your manufacturers web site and download the Network Card Drivers. If you dont have a standard machine - Dell HP - You may need to open up your box and find out who manufactures your motherboard - if the cards integrated - or who manufactures your Network Card if its not integrated onto the motherboard.

Many things to consider here. Goto Start/Connect To/Show All connections. Look for a connection there which says Local Area Connection. Now 1>if you do find the local area connection icon, right click that and click on properties and then in the properties dialog check mark on the "show the icon when connected in the taskbar" option. once you do that, you will get an icon. 2>if you cant see the local area connection icon on the Network connections, then you havent installed the drivers for your LAN Network card. You may need to visit your manufacturer's website, goto Support and in the options you'll find Drivers and Downloads. Select your computer model and download the appropriate driver and install. Usually LAN connections are automatically configured once you install the drivers for your Card. so this should be it

Check device manager, make sure your network adapter is working. Maybe even update the driver for it.
