i own a shop and high mileage oils like synthetics are made to be run for more than 6 thousand miles, low mileage oil needs to be changed every 3 thousand at the most, there just cheaper oils that break down a lot faster and don't protect your engine as well as the more expensive ones do,i myself like all the synthetic oils that are out, they work really good,i go about 8-9 thousand on one oil change which for me is around 1 year,so it works out good that way,i don't have to change that often, but synthetic oil is the best there is,and Mobil one is the best brand of it there is also,i highly recommend it to anyone who has a higher mileage vehicle, and wants it to last, good luck hope this helps.

I love debates about how long between oil changes. I always think back to what my high school auto shop teacher told us about oil. Oil is continuously contaminated by 5 things: metal, carbon, water, gasoline, and dirt. Metal from engine component wear, is probably the most miniscule contaminent between oil changes, but it is there. Carbon and water are both byproducts of gasoline combustion, and contiuously gets past your piston rings. In the same fashion, unburned gasoline works its way into your oil. And lastly there is dirt, no air filter in the world removes 100% of it from all the air your engine is sucking in.
This brings me to my hypothetical question, what's heavier? A ton of feathers, or a ton of bricks?
It doesn't matter what kind of oil you use, synthetic, blend, or conventional. You should change your oil between 3000 and 4000 miles, because they will all be dirty by then. If you want your engine to last alot longer, synthetics are the way to go. They are slipperier, they adhere to surfaces better, and they can withstand more heat and friction before they break down.
As far as high mileage oils are go, I feel they are a bit of a gimmick. They have additives to condition your engine seals(swell them). However, that might not always be a good idea. A weakened seal that gets hit with a "conditioner" might also rupture when it swells.
I believe oil is oil as long as its clean(and has an ASE stamp on the container.)

High mileage oils are of a heavier viscosity and have additives in them to swell seals that may have gotten dry and leaky over the years. The oil change interval remains the same, 3 months/3000miles.

Just go with the regular oil and change it every 3000miles. No big deal.

oil needs to be changed when it is dirty... i can't even go 3000 miles before then, no matter how much i wasted on 15,000mile synthetic crap.

so now i buy mineral and change it about every 1000 miles.
