I think it's extremely subjective. Textbooks say that newborns have no gender. But they do have a sex (male or female, biologically speaking). Confused yet? Gender roles are ingrained as we interact with society. If a kid with male parts grew up living a girl's life, then he would think he was a girl...until he started comparing himself to his peers and realizing that he didn't fit the gender role. It's hard to explain.
This concept might relate to sexuality and it might not. No scientific study can prove that sexuality is nature or nurture. Why bother proving it anyway? There will always be conflict. Look at some of these comments. I'm appalled by ignorant people who claim that homosexuality is a "disease." If they are so sure, then can straight people catch it and vice versa? There will be two sides to the story. I have nothing against gay or straight people...just extremists who defame a certain sexual preference because they are too ignorant to open their eyes.
-By the way, I absolutely adore Jonah's answer. It makes a lot of sense. [And no, I'm not being sarcastic. This is a compliment]

You can't rely on a religiously based site to give you the straight facts. I'm not saying they'll lie, but it's common knowledge that many Christian denominations consider homosexuality a sin. And who are you to say they weren't born that way? Since it's them who are gay, I think they'd know whether that was a choice or the way they were born. You can't determine their feelings for them.
There is strong scientific evidence that homosexuals are born that way. Oh, and on the American Psychiatric Association website, they say they are against trying to change a homosexual's sexuality. So maybe you should give it up too.

Used to be people thought the world was flat. Science came around and educated us as to how it really was. We're still learning about the biological nature of sexuality, still doing studies, none of which are conclusive, but seem to be indicating at least some part to biological etiology.
Just because we haven't conclusively pinned something down doesn't mean that it isn't true, right?
And I wouldn't get my scientific information from a religious site. Go to the source, eh?

Somehow I doubt highly that the APA did any such study, and if they did, the study sounds like it would have been done under the assumption that homosexuality is a disease of some kind, which it isn't. And I would strongly question any "study" featured on an extremist Christian website.
Stand up for yourself, think on your own, do your own research.

An October 2004 scientific research publication stated that scientists at the University of Padua have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men. This fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by gay men, and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation. Mothers of gay men produced an average of 2.7 babies compared with 2.3 born to mothers of straight men. And maternal aunts of gay men had 2.0 babies compared with 1.5 born to the maternal aunts of straight men.
Another study published in Human Genetics in February 2006 examined X chromosome inactivation in mothers of gay sons and mothers whose sons were not gay. Normally, X chromosome inactivation occurs at random: half of the cells in a woman's body will have one X chromosome inactivated, while the other half inactivates the other chromosome. Researchers found that in about a quarter of mothers who had at least two gay sons every single cell in these women inactivated the same X chromosome while only 4 percent of mothers with no gay sons showed this type of extreme skewing.
A Canadian university study published in June of 2006 stated that, although researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers, that the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if gay men were raised away from their biological families.
A January 2007 report suggested to be gay you need to receive one gay gene from both parents, and that those with only one gay gene have a selective advantage because they are heterosexual but have increased style, male sex drive, charm and seductiveness towards women.
If you are against scientific research, you should be true to your beliefs and no longer seek any scientific and medical advice from a physician unless you are a hypocrite.

Listen YOU........get on with your nosey lil' self ok because you are a bit in over your head with this "american psychiatric association report" CRAP, my guess is that the report was done by someone who is not gay or lesbian and who made their "educated guess" because he/she/they decided that WE (gays) are wrong and we are not normal........but really if it was not a normal thing.............WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF US? THINK ABOUT IT!!! Further more you can't believe everything you read, if you are not a part of the glbt community then get to steppin' cuz u are playing in the wrong section!!

Sorry I do not look to a site based on MYTHOLOGY to have any scientific research or valid opinions. I know the difference in science, accredited information, and fairy tales told to children.

Gays were born that way and didn’t have a choice in the matter.
Your real problem isn’t with gays, it’s with mental health problems. You have been brainwashed by your religion to the point of mental health. I read your Q/A’s and you’ve admitted “I had satanic voices in my head about 3 years ago. I prayed, and prayed, and prayed... and after a couple months, I was cured.”
Now that was your own words, not something I’ve made up about you. Leave gays alone and get help for your own problems.
