I hear a lot about e-books. What makes e-publishing so different from regular publishing? Is it true that authors who can't get published anywhere else can get published this way?

E publishers post books online and charge people a fee to download and read them. Supposed to be the future of publishing. I seriously doubt it. I personally would never do it. Pax - C.

E-publishing involves taking out the traditional expenses of regular publishing by simplifying things into an easier-to-read elecronic book format--which isn't expensive at all.

Not true. You're confusing that with 'vanity' press.

Don't. E-publishing is a respective form of publishing. But many biased people think it's vanity press or Publish on Demand.

ePublishers sell books and stories usually online ONLY (though some have print book options) in various formats - MS Word, html, Adobe PDF files, etc. You purchase the stories as if you are buying a book online, such as like at Amazon.com, then you download the story onto your computer in the chosen format. They sell special readers so you can download all the stories you've bought onto the readers and carry them with you. You could virtually have hundreds of books fit onto your reader and tuck it into your purse.

I was skeptical about ePublishing, too. Personally, I adore the feel of a good sturdy book in my hands and the feel of the paper, etc. And because ePublishers are relatively new, they initially accepted a lot more unknown authors but as they've increased in popularity, more and more well-known, established authors are coming out with eBooks in addition to their print books. So to answer you question, ePublishing did make it easier for writers to get published.

I'd like to point out that I see dozens of questions on Yahoo answers of people desperately seeking sites to download books. This demonstrates the increasing popularity of the e-book format, at least in the younger generations.

As for me, I have my short stories published through an e-Publisher but I'd like my mainstream, full-length novels published through a traditional publisher if at all possible.

Hope this helps.
