British colonists and Native Americans.

The Royal Proclamation of 1763 divided British North America (13 colonies) from Native territory West of the Appalachian Mountains, and North from Canada.

The British did this for a few reasons.

1) The Natives (contrary to popular belief) were an extremely potent force. The Six Nations to the North, and the "Five Civilzed Tribes" to the South were extremely effective warriors. Pontiac's rebellion almost drove Europeans off of North America. The French in Canada were traditional allies of most Native groups as well. As a result of this, the Brits basically sucked up to the Canadiens and the Natives by ensuring that no British would settle these lands without Crown approval.

2) British Americans were notorious for unfair dealings witht he Indians. Prior to the RP 1763 many natives got cheated out of lands by greedy speculators. The RP ensured that only the Crown after a public gathering could purchase Indian lands.

Fun Facts: The Royal Proclamation is still leading legislation for Canada's Native policies.
