Could anyone give me some of the simularities and differences between critics and directors in the theater?

they both pick shows apart to find what needs improvement, but directors pick them apart and then fix the parts needing improvement.

Well, directors are the people who are in charge of the play; they DIRECT the actors, hence the title. Critics are the people who (hopefully) go to see the show, and then CRITIQUE (hence the title), writing something called a REVIEW, which explains, essentially, what they thought about the plays, the actors, the direction, the costumes, the lighting, etc.
