How do I plan a cross country trip?

Question

From MA to CA. Im going with a group of friends after senior year
-how much money (estimated) will it cost, driveing and gas and stuff like that
-how long (estimated does it take)
-good route to go
-things i have to bring
-anything else you think I should know

First decide on route north(I-95) or south(I-40),To make that decision try to decide on what you want to see. Southern route better in cooler months Northern better in warmer months. Costs: Plan on 35-50$ a day for food. How long depends on number of stops. I'd shoot for 2 weeks at least. Hotels 100-150$ a night. Cloths, depends on time of year. Take plenty of underwear. Plan on doing laundry a couple of times. Things to bring, Ipod, DVD player, music, movies, books, playing cards. Snacks, camera, cell phone, maps.
Check with friends and family for ideas. Talk to every one you see about ideas. Get people's names if you can for help along the way. Gas will depend on car and sped you drive. Write out a budget and agree ahead of time how much every one pays on common expenses such as car and hotels. Food is each person's own responsibility. Have FUN.
