If the screeching started at the same time as your slow booting, chances are your hard drive is about to bite the big one.

There are only three things that can make noise in a computer:

1. CPU or case fan.
2. hard drive
3. CD/DVD drive

If you open the computer, you can probably pinpoint the source easier. But, my bet would be the hard drive. Might be time for a hard drive replacement.

Your comp seems to have the exact same symptoms as mine. It takes about 5-10 minuets to load. I don't think it's because it's old (although it could be). It could have viruses, although that's what my dad said when I asked him to help with my computer but Norton AntiVirus can't seem to find any. The best thing to do would be to get a computer expert in to fix it. That's what I'm going to do.

It sounds as if it could be the fan,or harddrive. .
To get your start up faster go to -start>run>type in 'msconfig' then click ok. Click on the tab of the window that comes up that says"start-up.'Go through & check down the list & uncheck the boxes ofwhat you don't need to start up.But keep your anti-virus running at start up.(That's all I have on startup) See if that helps.

Your HD may be going bad, or it could be something as simple as a bad cooling fan.
