When someone sends you an email and the time on their email says EDT, does that mean he is sending it from the east coast? For example, I got an email today with the date of 2007 12:24:36 EDT, but the person who sent it to me claimed to be on the west coast when he sent it (EDT is east coast time). Is the person lying who sent the email, or is the EDT reflecting the time it is at the headquarters for the internet service located on the East Coast? The email was an AOL address.

EDT can be the time set on the email server so you cant really tell, But if you go to http://www.shannonsidecomputers.com and go to the tools page at the end you will find network tools, in it there is an email scanner which will give you all the info you need.

The timestamp on an email receipt is the recipient's time. So you are using EDT and that's why it shows that you got it at 12:24:36 EDT.
If you do not live on the east coast, adjust your time preferences with your email provider.

The EDT reflects the time when the e-mail server sent the mail. So you can't really tell if the person is lying.
