my screen goes black with or with out a screen saver on it. how can i fix that so i can have even just my desk to showing.

Goto your control panel and select the Power Options.
On the Power Schemes Tab you can select the amount of time of inactivity before the monitor will turn off or you can tell it to never turn off.

Its conserving power. If the monitor goes black it uses less power. That means you dont have to pay for the electricity. It should return to normal if you press a key, click, or even move the mouse. It goes black after a certain amount of time. You can adjust the time in the same section where you choose the screen saver.
